1. Are you going to school this year?
Nope.
2. If yes, where are you going (high school, college, etc.)? If no, when did you graduate?
Which time? Wheeler High, 1984. Georgia Tech, 1989 (Applied Physics). Georgia Tech, 1991 (MSEE)
3. What are/were your favorite school subjects?
High school: band and physics
College: Optics, especially the labs
4. What are/were your least favorite school subjects?
High school: anything taught by a coach
College: Thermodynamics and e-mag. Ugh.
5. Have you ever had a favorite teacher? Why was he/she a favorite?
High school:
- Barbara Brown, AP classes. She also ran the Academic Bowl teams. She had some really cool classes: Death and Dying, Propaganda, and my personal favorite: "Seminar". Seminar about what? Whatever you want. I did papers on music theory as a sophomore, and science fiction as a junior.
- Laurie Porter nee Underwood, AP English. Ruined me for pulp science fiction (and crappy writing in general) forever. I got a 5 on my AP English exam because of her.
- Bill Pankratius, Physics.
College:
- Kevin O'Donnell, Optics. Always took the time to explain things. One of the first professors I had who made me realize that it's a two-way street: show interest in class, and you'll get an available and engaged teacher.
- Don O'Shea, Optics. He lives on the same street as "Driving Miss Daisy" was filmed on. I was always impressed by the built-in bookshelves that went over the door frame, but at least I'm well on the way to having that many books.
